Pentagon to Test Guided Parachute Drops From UAVs

In August, the first UAV-to-soldier airdrop test will occur in California, using a small unmanned airplane and guided parachutes. An all-composite T-20 Arcturus unmanned airplane will drop 10-pound supplies during a test at Camp Roberts. The T-20 is being made to fly missions up to 16 hours long, navigate waypoints and land autonomously.

PhantomX Quadropod Prototype

RISE

A climbing robot that grasps the micro-texture of the surface using special feet and special motions. The development team includes U Penn, Stanford, Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon and Boston Dynamics. The work was funded by DARPA.

LegLab

PETMAN Prototype

Biped robot that balances dynamically using a human-like walking motion. It is a close relative to BigDog, sharing elements of the mechanical design and control.

Robot Fish

A robotic fish developed by scientists from Essex University is put through its paces in a special tank at the London Aquarium. It works via sensors and has autonomous navigational control.

LittleDog

LittleDog was developed by Boston Dynamics with funding from DARPA. It is used for research on legged locomotion and learning by groups at MIT, Stanford, Carnegie Mellon, USC, U Penn and IHMC.

Israeli Military Testing 'robotic' Snake

According to news reports, the Israeli military has developed a "robotic" snake that can transmit video and audio as it crawls through difficult terrain.

X-37B on Atlas V 501

A secret space plane that has been years in the making is now set to launch into the final frontier. The United States Air Force plans to launch the X37B orbital test vehicle tomorrow, to perform a series of tests. Is this the beginning of the United States going above and beyond in space exploration or the beginning of the militarization of space?

Unmanned solar aircraft redefines the term long haul flight

Having a plane that can fly continuously without refueling has long been a dream of military planners, but that dream might soon become reality if the QinetiQ Zephyr solar plane lives up to its billing.

NXT Segway with Leaning Rider

Yes, it's a toy... but, the potential is pretty high to have it enhanced for robotic patrols with a chain-gun attached.
