Pentagon to Test Guided Parachute Drops From UAVs
In August, the first UAV-to-soldier airdrop test will occur in California, using a small unmanned airplane and guided parachutes. An all-composite T-20 Arcturus unmanned airplane will drop 10-pound supplies during a test at Camp Roberts. The T-20 is being made to fly missions up to 16 hours long, navigate waypoints and land autonomously.
RISE
A climbing robot that grasps the micro-texture of the surface using special feet and special motions. The development team includes U Penn, Stanford, Berkeley, Carnegie Mellon and Boston Dynamics. The work was funded by DARPA.

Biped robot that balances dynamically using a human-like walking motion. It is a close relative to BigDog, sharing elements of the mechanical design and control.

LittleDog was developed by Boston Dynamics with funding from DARPA. It is used for research on legged locomotion and learning by groups at MIT, Stanford, Carnegie Mellon, USC, U Penn and IHMC.

From the Ben Gurion University's robotics lab in Israel comes the SpiderBot, which gets around in much the same way as the Man. The robot's webs are actually tethered plungers that it can pull away from a surface, reel back in and then aim and shoot with its swiveling arms. It's still a little slow when it comes to getting around, but could this wall-climber be the first step toward a robot that uses swinging as its main method of locomotion?
Not much else is known about the SpiderBot. Will it fight crime? Just crack-wise? Who knows...
